YourBeats community rules
Effective date: 30 October 2026
Last updated: 30 October 2026
Playing YourBeats with other people should be fun for everyone, including players under 18. These rules help keep it that way. They explain our terms of use in plain words: if the two ever differ, the terms apply.
The short version
- Be kind, play fair, keep it honest, respect other people's work, and follow the law.
- The rules apply everywhere, for every player, including rooms where only adults can type.
- Players under 18 get extra protection, such as no typed messages.
- You can report and block in the app. A person on our team reviews every report.
- Breaking the rules can cost you a handle, a chart or your account. You can ask us why, and appeal.

1. Where these rules apply
The rules cover everything you share with other players or send us:
- your handle, name, avatar and profile page;
- room names, reactions, preset phrases and typed messages;
- share links and their picture cards;
- the songs you add and play in rooms;
- your charts, with their names, descriptions and tags;
- your ratings, rating notes and nominations;
- the reports and appeals you write.
They apply everywhere in YourBeats, for every player, including rooms where only adults can type.
2. The rules
The examples are not a complete list: anything hateful, sexual, violent, threatening or otherwise offensive breaks the rules.
2.1 Be kind
- No hate. Never attack people for who they are, such as their race, religion, nationality, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity.
- No bullying or harassment. Don't pick on anyone, gang up on them or keep messaging someone who doesn't want it, and never threaten anyone.
- No violence or gore. Nothing that shows, encourages or celebrates hurting people or animals.
- Nothing sexual. No sexual or pornographic content, and never anything sexual involving someone under 18.
- Nothing that encourages or promotes suicide, self-harm or eating disorders, or shows how. If you're having a hard time, talk to someone you trust.
- No dangerous stunts or challenges. Nothing that encourages anyone to risk serious harm, or to take harmful substances such as drugs.
- Keep personal information private, yours included. Don't share anyone's address, phone number, school or social media accounts.
- Be yourself. Don't pretend to be someone else, such as another player, YourBeats, our team or YouTube.
2.2 Play fair
- No cheating. No bots, scripts, modified apps or anything that plays for you. Never send runs you didn't play, or change what the app sends.
- Tell us about bugs, don't use them to win records, points or rewards.
- One person, their own accounts. Don't share or sell an account, or make extra ones to get more free songs, push songs up the lists, or get round a limit, block or ban.
2.3 Keep YourBeats honest
- No spam, including copies of charts made to farm points.
2.4 Respect other people's work
- Make your own charts. Don't copy charts from other games, and remix a player's chart only where they allow it. Credit is automatic, and nobody can remove it. To be listed publicly, a chart must differ by at least 30% from every other chart of the song.
- Only add videos you are allowed to watch on YouTube.
- Respect other people's rights. Don't post anything that breaks someone else's rights, such as copying their work.
2.5 Follow the law
- Nothing illegal. Nothing that is illegal or encourages anything illegal, such as terrorism, child sexual abuse, scams, or selling drugs or weapons. We remove accounts run by or for a banned (proscribed) organisation.
3. Extra protections for players under 18
- They start with friends-only settings: only friends can see their profile page, invite them to rooms, challenge them or race their saved runs, and their name is hidden on song records.
- They never see or send typed messages.
- Only someone with their friend code can add them as a friend.
- Share cards, our web pages and a song's credit never name them.
- When they share a chart, public listing starts switched off.
- Until a player tells us their age, they get the under-18 settings.
- Under 13, players can still play, but without an account, rooms, quick play, Ranked, events, friends, challenges or sharing. Below YouTube's minimum age where they live (13 in most countries, up to 16 in some), playing with others stays closed too.
YourBeats goes by the year of birth you give, and we don't check it. That's why every rule applies to every player, everywhere. Our privacy policy says more.
4. How we protect players
- Word filters. Before anyone sees them, handles, names, room names, typed messages, and shared charts' names and descriptions are checked against lists of offensive words, and refused if they match. Typed messages also can't contain links, contact details or long numbers.
- Who can type. Quick play, Ranked and events, where you meet players you don't know, use only reactions and preset phrases. Only adults can type messages, in rooms set to friends only.
- Chart checks. A chart can be shared only once it passes automatic checks (for example, that a perfect player can clear it) and you have cleared it at Silver or better. Sharing needs an email account at least 7 days old, and you can share up to 2 new charts a day.
- Score checks. We check every song record against its chart. If two of your runs fail our checks in a season, Ranked pauses for you until our team has looked at them.
- People. A person on our team reviews every report. A chart you share is listed once you ask and it passes our automatic checks, and our team looks at any chart that is reported.
- Hosts. A room's host can remove a player.
- Rooms forget. A room keeps only its last 50 messages, and erases them when it closes: after 12 hours at most, or 10 minutes after the last player leaves.
- We don't watch rooms. We see a room's messages when someone reports it (section 5).
- Songs from YouTube play in YouTube's own player, under YouTube's rules. Age-restricted videos can't be added or played, but some music videos still have swearing or grown-up themes.
5. Report it, block it
- Report a player from their profile's menu, their run on a song's records, or their seat in a room or match, and a players' chart from its sheet. A report from a room carries its last 30 messages.
- A person on our team reviews every report, and we never tell a player who reported them. With an email account, your inbox tells you when someone has looked at it.
- Block a player from their profile, the song records, a room or a match. They are not told. You won't see their messages or be matched with them in quick play or Ranked, and any friendship or open challenge between you ends.
- Guest accounts can report and block too.
- If someone is in danger, contact the police first. If you see something that may be illegal, report it in the app and write to support@yourbeats.net.
- Not a player? Anyone can report by email: our contact page says how. Rights holders, see our copyright page.
6. What happens if someone breaks the rules
If something breaks the rules, our team can:
- remove a handle (nobody can use it for a year, and the account gets a new automatic one), clear an avatar, or take a record off its board;
- unlist, remove or decline a chart, or ask its creator for changes;
- close an account for good, after serious or repeated breaks of the rules.
Failed score checks can also pause Ranked (section 4). We remove illegal content as soon as we know of it, and may share information with the police or other authorities when the law requires it or someone may be in danger.
7. Telling you why, and appeals
- Charts. If we act on your chart, the app tells you why, and you can appeal there within 14 days for someone on our team to look again.
- Handles, avatars, records and accounts. If we remove your handle, avatar or a record, or close your account, write to support@yourbeats.net: we will tell you why and, if you ask, look again. If we got it wrong, we undo what we did where we can.
- Anything else. If you think we got something wrong, write to support@yourbeats.net. We acknowledge every complaint within 30 days, look into it, and tell you what we decided.
- Help with writing. Players under 18 can ask a parent or another adult they trust to help them.
Annex A of our terms explains how complaints work in full.
8. Thank you
These rules can change as YourBeats grows, and so can our terms of use. When they do, we change the date at the top. Thanks for keeping YourBeats fun.
